What do you look for in a shirt design?

Hey everyone, Just curious, what kind of things do you look for/think about when rating/creating designs? I think discussing this will help us share insight to the creative process and may help those looking to start making designs (like me!) get some preliminary guidelines. When I'm critiquing shirt designs or selecting from printed canvas shirts to buy, there are certain qualities I look for: -First is the message, whether it will come across clearly and portrays something I would support. -Second is that "eye-catching" element, if it's likely to draw attention to itself. Think about it, how many times do you actually read the shirts of people you know or pass by every day? If it's a canvas shirt with messages about God, it has to be bold! -Third is whether the aesthetic of the design including color, images, style, etc. I think it'd be cool to see what you guys look for, compared and contrasted to my preferences. :)

Well, at first I look at the quality. Is this a shirt canvas would be able to print? Is it too pixely? And other things like that. Then I look at the actual design, placement, colors, and stuff like that. Does this look too kiddish? Is this something I could see people buying? But most important is the message, because you can have a great design and an awful message. I've seen some shirts on here that are a great quality, nice colors, awesome design, but awful message. =^)

i look at the message and design x] i love shirts that are loud... but i don't really vote on whether i'd wear it though... i mostly vote on the design itself =]

To me the message and design are equally important. Colors are secondary. Take your time and pick a cool readable font. I prefer shirts that are subtle, not so loud and all over the place. I like grunge but use it sparingly. That's just me.
