Design description

This design is the second half of 1 Cor. 13:11, explaining the differences in acting like a child and acting like a man. The words are shaped to form the image of a mustache in order to convey a sense that what the biblical description of a man is what makes a real man.

Yeah, I agree. I didn't realize until after I had already submitted it that I could have went into a lot more detail with the mock-up image. Lesson learned. Thanks for the feedback, though!

I like the direction this is headed a lot. Would definitely recommend a better mockup though. Corey and others have posted great links in the forums about such.

This is superb! It is a great way to depict that as Christian men, we have to step up. We have to spread the word, and be a light to the world. What is more manly than facial hair?! Mustache's are in right now, and this is just down right awesomeness.

The design actually was hand drawn on a piece of paper, then scanned in, and then vectorized to make minor edits. Again, though, thank you for at least pushing me. I understand and welcome critiques.

next time try to hand draw it. if you think it needs to feel hand drawn, why not give that a shot? that's meant to be encouraging too, not discouraging.

I did try it with a more consistent font, but it looses this natural feel that I was going for. I wanted the whole thing to feel hand-made and very natural, not only the font, but the entire design. I wanted it to look like something somebody just kinda free-hand painted or something. But it also came down to what helped the shape of the mustache stand out more, because that is the backbone of the design. Without it, it's just text on a shirt. I really do appreciate the critique, though. It's these kinda of conversations that really push me as a designer to be more creative and think more critically.

i know what you're saying, and i understand it's supposed to look hand-drawn, but still think that you could have maintained consistency in the letterforms. check out jon contino for example, all his stuff looks hand drawn, but is consistent when it comes to the letterforms. but to each his own. just my opinion.

I appreciate the feedback. I purposefully wanted this design to look very hand-made, thus the imperfect type. The serifs and the size of the letters are there to help contribute to the overall shape of the mustache, thus the variations. I tried using an adjusted typeface, adding serifs to all the letters, and having the whole thing san-serif, but something just gets lost. I thought that, given my options, this was the best fit for the shape and style I wanted for this design.

i like where it's headed, i just think the type needs a little work. some of the letters have serifs, some don't, some have tiny serifs, some have huge ones, some letters are super wide, some are condensed. if that stuff were tightened up, i'd love this one.
