Cory, There is a design that I submitted for critique that I am currently working on. Please take a look and let me know where to go with the fonts. I am happy with the graphic but I do think that there is room for vast improvement on the font. Please let me know. Thanks

i guess what i was getting at, is since you're new to shirt design, find tees that are done by well known brands and designers, study those.

so are you more into art than design? i would normally say try to mimic those people without ripping them off, but they're fine artists, you're doing graphic design, so the execution will be very different. but it just seems like you're lacking in the finding inspiration stage. before i work on any project i research it and put together a small board to base things off of. if it's a type-based design, i'll research the style of typography i'm going for, borrow different elements or colors, and go from there. and i'm always looking at the best designers of that style that i can find.

If I had to pick a particular style that I like the most it would be a Will Eisner style of illustration. Perhaps the 50's and 60's type of design (not the crude junk that floods facebook and such but similar style). I like that classic look with a little bit of modern flare. I am also a fan of surrealism On the other hand, I have also always loved simple designs such as "This is not a pipe" by Rene Magritte

The stretch thing is not really my doing. However, the critique is much appreciated Cory. I have a few designs that require custom fonts so you will see that side of thing hopefully soon. I did not mean to blow up so much. I really was inspired to make this shirt and that is why it offended me. I figure that on my next design I will submit it for critique before I do it for votes this way I can ensure upload and fix flaws.

wasn't bashing, just talking like i would in person. sorry for that. my critiques are still the same. grunge fonts come off as amateur, because every repeated letter has the same little bits knocked out of it. it's not natural or believable. and i'm actually not even sure how people are supposed to critique it when it's all stretched like that. how do we know what it actually looks like? but still, judging from all of your designs, i still think you need to be inspired. so i ask again, who inspires you" what brands do you like? again, sorry if my tone doesn't translate well, but i'm not being mean or harsh.

Douglas: You are missing Corey's pointers because of pride. The point wasn't WHERE you downloaded the font, but the fact that it is a grunge font and looks cheesy! I use to be like you, always using grunge fonts because they "look cool" but now I hardly (if ever) do! I use smooth-clean-type faces and make them my own! - Also Corey comes off harsh sometimes but really he is just being black and white! trust me, don't fight it! he is right 80% of the time! Most of my stuff on here is crap because its all old but I have come SOOOO far because people on here were black and white! you should see my newer stuff compared to my stuff on canvas! It made me a better designer

Corey, I have looked at a few of your critiques and they all seem like bashing. Please if you can not offer criticism in a professional manner please do not comment at all. It is offensive when you assume you know the level of experience that I have in design. I have been doing design for several years. Also, I did not get the fonts from dafont.com as you mentioned so that is another assumption that went wrong. David, thank you for the critique it helped a good deal. Hopefully, I will be able to do another design with a crown using the suggestions that you mentioned. About the stretching, there were a few issues with the upload. Don't know what went wront there but I did have the image at 1440 by 840. I am thinking that because it was saved as a PNG file the upload might have discarded the white layer (not just the background but I actually made a layer of white to the size to (ha ha) ensure that it would not stretch). Again, this is something that I will work on in the future. The one thing corey did get right in his assumptions is that I am new to t-shirt design (not to design by any means). This is the reason that I choose to work on a christian site so that I can grow in my development of t-shirt design. I have done some monochromatic stuff but not too many color designs for shirts. Again, we will see where this leads. Thank you for your comments, and again if you cannot critique without basing or using general assumptions about the person who designed the shirt then please just don't comment.

the mockup is all stretched. it seems like you need to work on the basics of design before diving into t shirt design. but.... if you must know what i think is wrong with this specifically, i think the typeface is cheesy, grunge fonts from dafont.com come off as amateur. get into typography, do your own treatments, get inspired. try not to just type it out and throw a drop shadow on it. overall it just seems very uninspired. that's the key to growing. you're only as good as those you're inspired by. what brands inspire you? here is a tutorial to help with your mockups. http://vimeo.com/20271193

I really like this concept, I actually had a design based on the same verse a while back. I do think the crown and the blood seem a little too disconnected. The blood doesn't really look like it's coming from the crown. That could be fixed if you had blood on the thorns or maybe some blood pooling beneath the crown. I think it would be better without the drop shadows on the text. And try to use a 1440x840 detail image so your design isn't squished.
