ok... interesting post there Mr. A. But one fatal flaw... Stephen King also wrote a book called The Eyes of the Dragon. Looks like the komodo idea is a bust too. :)

So true about Hobbits, Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; In response to the "flaming cats eye". Peter Jackson, the Lollipop Guild and the rest of Munchkin Land would be the least of my worries... I would be more concerned with Stephen King, Drew Barrymore & General! You know "Cat's Eye" 1985...Now I don't know about any of you but any cat that can take down a dagger toting Troll, I don't want no part of! How about a flaming komodo dragons eye! That would be totally wicked! Stephen King, Peter Jackson & Mickey Mouse shouldn't get upset... Godzilla...Now that's another story....
Oh, yeah. It'll go to print. Regardless of the points of discussion, it will be sold. And we watch as those involved in this type of "art" grow more brazen with each submission. I wouldn't want to see anyone sued over what could have been easily avoided. Canvas and C28 need sales and don't seem to mind jeopardizing the individual artists in the process. (You all know that we each retain ALL responsibility/liability for "our" work. Read the terms at submission... that is if they still exist!)
how much do you guys want to bet this wins and sells well despite the discussion here about copyrights?
The relation of the eye to the verse breaks down like this. The ring is the ultimate material possession and everyone wants it, especially Sauron (the flaming cat eye) who sends out the ringwraiths to steal it from Frodo. Sauron is the main antagonist and will go to any lengths to take this ring back. We can learn many things from Lord of the Rings, one thing that stands out to me is to lay our treasures up in heaven where thieves can't steal them away. What are some things that you guys have learned from Lord of the Rings? What are some other verses that apply to the trilogy?
sorry buddy..but what the relation between the picture of eyes and the part of the bible (on matthew 6 : 20)
good points all around. appreciate your attitude knoll. i agree, though. submitting to the contest isn't really "testing the waters". but to chris' point... the likenesses of these characters is copyrighted, much like your star wars stuff. i guarantee if lucas arts caught wind, they'd be sued. you are definitely running the risk of lawsuits, but as you know, it probably won't ever happen.
I'd also just say, see if it flies in the forum first. And if the forum isn't your best bet on what C28 will do with it (which it isn't), email the people at C28. Ask them about it. But don't just submit it to the contest right away hoping to get away with a low res copyright infringement.
Knoll, you're missing Rein's point. Whether you create it yourself or not, the concept is licensed by Warner Brothers. And you certainly can not gauge a design by "if it would fly" here on Canvas! You've gotten away with two Star Wars infringements, so you think you can keep pressing your luck? And the Atari logo... We're going in circles here.
Greetings my friends, first off, I have to say you guys are the best. I appreciate you looking out for me because I know that your intentions are good. You are correct in your link, that is the low resolution file that I used and this was intentional. I merely wanted to see if this Lord of the Rings shirt idea would fly before taking the 4 hours to make a flaming cat eye from scratch in high resolution. As you all know, when we submit a winning shirt design it has to be high res, so I couldn't use this even if I wanted to or the finished product would look terrible. Hopefully it won't win for the simple fact that, I don't want the wrath of Warner Brothers and Peter Jackson on my tail like Ringwraiths. But if for some reason this shirt gets chosen for production, I will definitely recreate the flaming cat eye. And Canvas, feel free to pull it from the voting block if you want, I truly don't mind. I love you guys and appreciate your feedback. And I look forward to seeing more great designs from you all. Keep up the great work.
That's the one! Same thing. Erase the orange cloud to get just the eye and voila, you've got the rip. Same shine position... same dark spot in the lower right... cut and rip. When is it going to get through? We can't call this stuff our own work. Forget the voting. Just pull it from the contest. It doesn't qualify for posting.
this one? http://captainawkwarddotcom.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/eye-of-sauron_-lord-of-the-rings_-return-of-the-king-800x600.jpg
I agree with these gentlemen. It's the exact image. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Sauron%27s+Eye+Image
Even if it was created by you, this is licensed imagery, belonging to Warner Brothers. You could expect a cease-and-desist the minute you make a sale.
where did you find the image of the eye? i'm sure it's copyrighted. unless you created it yourself.
