sorry man, but some things are just not open for opinion. you can't tell me that brotherlos' first version did not look like this logo: http://www.easterseals.com/images/content/pagebuilder/900565.jpg and i do not think i'm an "end all", but i do think that being a young professional in the current market that has had top selling shirts from companies like hurley and burton in stores like pac sun, dillards, macys, and hot topic, as well as designing for world-touring bands like metallica legitimizes my opinions on shirt designs. i'm not bragging at all but just being honest. also, again, the thrift store comment was not rude or sarcastic or unprofessional... you just misunderstood what was meant.

Hey Mata, sorry I took so long to get you back. I usually only use the net a couple of times a week. My facebook is eddie bratrud. Im 29 yrs old, but been married for nine years now and I have an 8 yr old son, and 6 yr old daughter so my maturity level is a little above most of my peers if you know what i mean.lol. Im really sorry to hear about the trials you suffer my prayers are with you, and I mean that. I think its great that you do not allow your suffering to stop you from using your obvious gifts. It is too bad that some "Christians" can get so caught up in the flesh that they conspire to rail against someone elses design out of pure envy. In my opinion if it is a good design, it should win and If its just so so it shouldn't, end of story. I'm from the Temecula area, its about an hour north of San Diego. Been here my whole life, except for when I went to bible college in columbus Ohio, Brrrgghh! I animated it on Gimp. It just was 2 layers, one inverted, changed every 200 milliseconds or something like that. I have tried to submit to threadless before with some mediocre designs, but this one I worked the hardest on and ya! I'll check your link out!

In response to your question on Threadless...yes, I did everything about the whole submission myself. I drew it from scratch, scanned, vectorized it, and all that jazz, and animated the thumbnail image. =^)

no problem mataboy! u haven't offended me at all! :) i have actually been very busy this summer preparing for high school. what i usually do is i go on every day and i would vote on the shirts. then when new designs came i would only have like 4 to vote on because i would have commented/voted on them all. right now i'm behind. i try to vote on shirts when i can but there's just so many!!! :) as for designing, i am still fully committed to this site. i just haven't done it in a while. i'll try to put up designs as soon as i can, but with all my other hobbies as well, photography, video making, photoshop work, sound mixing, and camp, i've been sooo busy!!!! i'll go check out your new designs right now. Hey man, you aren't that much older than me. I remember those magic eye books and posters too. I Do like your design approach, I can tell you actually put some thought into your artwork. I cant believe you do everything in illustrator, thats no easy feat. Illustrator is all I used to use cause its all I used to knew. I took a class back in Highschool for one semester and learned the basics. Back then I think it was like version 2.0 or something. I've been designing for about a year and a half now. Im an electrician by trade now, but love designing for a hobby. If I had it my way I would do it for a living, but with no credentials and a family of four to look after I have to stick with what pays the bills ya know. I started using photoshop for the first time about a year ago, wow that was a big learning curve I still dont know a thing about it. LOL. Get back at me anytime, lookin forward to seein some more from you.

Hey Matt, About your Love Languages shirt. I think your on the right track with this design. Really good choice of colors on this one and a great message. but in my humble opinion Im not crazy about the font, to me it is really hard to see that as an "L" in front of Love/Languages. I think you have a great shirt here, poss a 5 but i would play around with the font a little.

Saw your comments on Eddie's page about your Retro Jesus design, and hadn't seen it, so i went back and looked at it, and read all the comments too. I think the Hindu comments are just plain silly, as well as being less than knowledgeable about Hinduism and Hindi art styles. So a few Hindu godz are sometimes depicted as being blue-skinned...there are over 330 million to choose from, chances are there are a handful of most colors! :-)Besides, all Hinduistic art is bad by default? Baloney!...I think the Catholic comments were influenced overly much by the heart/thorns on His chest than anything else except maybe sameness of line weight, and that is something found in many types of illustration - especially "pop" art (which I love btw).... From a personal standpoint, the blue skin kind of threw me, not because I found it offensive or leaning towards other faiths or anything like that. It's just that light tone of blue puts me in mind of 'cold' and I got an immediate "Why is Jesus so cold?" thought at first glance. ;-) .... Great job overall on the "pop" art emulation, and yeah, I think you were a little bit robbed in point totals too. BUT, I gotta say, you sure got a LOT of responses! I'd seriously prefer that more people see/vote and comment on my stuff than I've gotten to a lot of it - even if it averaged out to lower scores, it wouldn't feel quite so dismissive as it has a few times already. Anyway, keep at it brother, your tenacity (50-ish designs and only one win) is encouraging and inspiring to me. :-) God bless!

It's pretty much alternative rock. I occasionally enjoy listening to genres that inspired alternative like hardcore punk and proto-punk stuff like The Velvet Underground. Nah, I don't like Petra. Stonehill is very different musically and lyrically from that stuff. No 80's metal/pop for me lol - my Dad loves Dakoda Motor Co. but I'm not really into them all that much. PFR is good...when I feel like listening to a Beatles tribute band. I would have to research the other bands you named, don't want you to expend all that effort if I'm just going to hate all of it

I am in the process of developing a consistent branding style/theme because right now the designs are all over the place style wise which is causing me to market in each of those directions. Hey Mataboy, I'm sorry I came across that way on my comment on your "Simple Gospel" shirt. I enjoy the artwork and everything about your shirt. I was being picky, about what the gospel is. I was tired last night and I thank you for praying for me. I have been taking an evangelism course which emphasizes that you must tell the hard truth in love, before you give the good news. I think I read your "Jesus loves me", and automatically thought of the "health and wealth gospel". It's obviously been something on my heart for a while, and I am sorry I assumed the worst and pounded you on it. I look at my comment now and wonder how I could have said those words so quickly. I can't hand draw anything. At all. Only one design I've submitted contained artwork I drew by hand. But I don't let that stop me. This world is filled with artistic possibilities. I see the disconnect here: I was talking about underground Christian music and you were talking about the mainstream back in those days. If we're talking mainstream then you'd be correct - instead of lagging the secular mainstream like it did in the early 90's now Christian music is a copycat of the secular mainstream. Which isn't bad, it just means that Christian creativity in the music business is pretty much zero.

Matt, I never implied that you're less of a christian, clearly you're taking this as a personal attack and I apologize if you feel this way. I never implied that the message should be over-shadowed by the art. Your analogies regarding poetry, drumming and interior design border on hyperbole, and conjecture. Mid-century graphic artists were actually ARTISTS, there was no stock art back then, no short cuts, nothing to "arrange"....just a person and pencil. They HAD to be creative. If you visit sites like Threadless.com or Emptees.com you won't see stock art in their winning submissions, you'll see actual artwork. I'd love to see that become the norm for Canvas....they deserve it. Matt, to further clarify....this is NOT a personal attack...be at rest my brother. :)

Oh, it's easy. Look at your "Child of God" design. All of the root-like (also looks like lightning) graphics directly below the text "Child of God" all the way to the bottom of the shirt should be erased. All of those graphics above "Child of God" you should keep. Uhhhh.....I have no idea what the re-submit rules are lol - I'll look into that for you

Thats an awesome ministry buddy...I too am in the worship area as well..I play bass guitar for my church and its amazing...I sing every now and then but not as much as i play bass...As far as me submitting more work...I would LOOOOVE to have more time to work on stuff :/ BUT my plan within the next couple of days is to REVAMP a couple of mine that has seen some decent results (for example my "New Creation" shirt I got some critiques im going to follow) im excited for that so we shall see what happens! and also the girls template....I myself have wanted a girls template and the closest I can get is this site http://www.youthedesigner.com/2009/10/05/19-free-blank-t-shirt-template-designs/ Other than those im wanting a girls tee template still as well...but a couple are close enough...another thing I have done is gone to a winning girls shirt on C28's store and copied their pic of the shirt, cloning out the design on that one and putting my design on there instead. It works pretty well and you get accurate Canvas shirt dimensions. hope this helps!!

When it comes to stuff like that, it's easy to add a bunch of stuff to the design and say "whoa all of that looks so cool!" But we have to take one step back and ask ourselves an important question: "Is any of this distracting/de-emphasizing the main graphic or message of the shirt?" While patterns and backgrounds are great, too much of it -or- having it it in the wrong place can be detrimental to the overall design. These are just some things I consider when I create t-shirt designs.....but it's up to you Mataboy to make the call

I personally never try to be offensive or condescending when I offer up a critique, but naturally some people might take it that way. Heck I've read some comments on my art that just burned me up....but that's just how it is. If it's helpful I incorporate it, if it's not then I ignore it. Just keep doing your thing dude, we're all in this together!

Dude, seriously you need to chill out about the comment. Clearly you do care whether or not I like it or you wouldn't have responded the way you did. If the comment area isn't there to put your thoughts about a design, what is it there for? Honestly. I wasn't unfair in my critique, but you should know how to make it better. For instance, my designs got 15 comments of all "I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!" but then it came out with a score of 3.1, so clearly people didn't "Love it," and now I don't know why or how to make it better. -- I have a different perspective on the shirt, and that's certainly no reason to berate me about a little criticism. If you're going to design something and post it here, be prepared to hear the good and bad so you can improve it, especially about mistakes like spelling and what not. They aren't going to print a shirt that isn't spelled correctly. -- Unlike seemingly everyone else on here, I don't feel the need to put "I love it" on every shirt, nor do I have the time. So, I simply comment on the shirts that I have a strong opinion about, good or bad. You don't like it, fine. I won't comment on your shirts. But don't take it as a personal attack against you and feel the need to lecture me on what you've done in life. I commented on the design, not your moral standing (which certainly is not my business nor my job). -- So, that said, let me know if you still want my feedback about your shirts. It's no skin off my nose if you don't.

hey, I honestly love alot of your designs =] I just never won before and was excited and got my hopes up which then turned to anger and I let it all out this morning. Not what I wanted..but I feel better now and wish I never posted anything. I like reading what you post because it encourages me. Life is hard sometimes and I'm trying to build my faith because you can never have enough of it! =] I know he will provide me with a job I jsut dont know when. .. :P

thanks for sharing all that! it def helped me to hear that because I have similar issues. I can hardly breathe all the time, even when I'm laying down. I dont have health insurance or a job so I can't go figure any of this out :/ thanks for the prayers!! =] I'm kinda bummed because canvas wanted one of my designs last week...so I sent them the files. They send a message back saying to send it again with out trackings so I did. I also sent them a regular e-mail to make sure they got it. I didnt hear from them till today. They were like " did you get our e-mail last week? we want your design" As if I never sent any emails out :( and now I see they picked the winners ...I'm bummed :(
