So I was just staying in the background and reading all the comments going back and forth on all the different designs until criticism started being directed at canvas and the people running the show (your comment on the Japan design). REALLY? If your not happy with the way things are run on this website than I suggest to either go start your own thing so you can be in charge or just move on to a different site. I can understand critiquing shirt designs and giving "helpful" pointers to the designers but once you move beyond that to the people running the website than you're missing the whole point of this website. Maybe it's time to just take a break Corey and rethink your motivations of being on this site and rethink ways of getting your voice heard and let canvas be canvas. We are to be "Christians" not frustrated slanderers. If you have an issue with canvas than email canvas, don't be spreading your frustration on their site for everyone to read. And that goes for any of the designers that you have issues with as well, unless it's helpful critiques than keep it to yourself or send that person an email so that everyone doesn't need to be reading your problems with people and their designs. From one Christian brother to another. This is all in love not trying to attack you at all.
HAHA I got kinda busy lately. I got some stuff brewing right now and should post it soon.
Hey, that wouldn't be a family tartan behind your head in the profile pic would it? In the picture you could pass for Gaelic. ;-)
Hi Corey, if you want to answer some of my questions about Canvas and such (which I appreciate you doing) in email rather than back-n-forth on here where my windiness can clog up comments, you can email me at: serloren@earthlink.net. Hope you have a great rest of the week, and God bless. :-)
Thanks for your response! I must add that keeping a humble spirit is not "sugar coating" anything. Sugar coating is twisting the truth to make it look good. Calling a design a "blob" sounds not only careless but it sounds like you don't know what your talking about. "you could work on creating more contrast between the two lines, over all great design!" is not only honest but it sounds like a professional minded person :) yes the world is a harsh place and has much harsher people than a canves threads critique, but as a follower of Christ you are to be in the world and not of it. A person will consider your critiques much more keeping this in mind and action ;) Remember when God analyzes you and your personality He says “In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith (by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises” (Hebrews 6:12 AMP).
So that you know what i was talking about in my previous comment, I am specifically referencing your comments from this page. http://www.canvasthreads.com/DesignDetails.aspx?id=7316 BTW I will boldly humble myself and confess that my weakness is my tendency to not trust in God with child like faith. It needlessly complicates my life while I could simply rest and find victory!. I am trusting in God's grace to help me fight this moment by moment battle! Jesus is bigger than the battle!! Amen!
That's great you embrace honesty even when it hurts! The underlying principal of honesty is to be cherished! Keep cultivating an Honest heart :) In all honesty you set a disproving/self-important tone in many of your comments to others. Why not be honest and gentle all in one? Your intent may be honest which is good!! but your honesty is decoded by others as harsh. Keep being honest :) ie; the two paint streaks look like a giant blob" could be stated simply; "in my opinion the two paint streaks could be spaced more creating contrast between the two. the colors and message are awesome! etc." it addresses the same issue while being an encouragement to the designer. I'm not saying to "water down" an opinion. I'm saying that when it comes to giving an opinion about a non-morality issue on a piece of art, consider the level of nesesity of your thoughts and try not to throw an opinion without communicating clearly that you are honest and genuinely interested in contributing creative/beneficial ideas with a humble spirit. Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly[a] with your God. Love, PureMark
hey man, I noticed you made a comment on the Mock up kit someone used in a design. Which mock-up kit would you recommend that has the nice highlight and shadow layers? Thanks, Mitchell
Hey, I was just wondering if you could find the time to skim my designs and tell me what I need to do to step them up a notch?
yeah that helped a little! haha THANKS!
It is put to rest.
hey, I was wondering if you could tell me what fonts to use because I am bad at the whole type thing apparently.
corey I'm sorry for being rude i talked out of anger, so please forgive me :/ what i said wasn't right but i think you SOMETIMES need to be nicer but yeah... again im sorry for how i said it.
hey Corey i saw your pics with grant muller and chris weigele! cool, they're the skaters i look up to... hope they could visit here in the PH..
Thanks! Yeah, I won't. The majority of them I've already made will most likely not be submitted anyways. I'll only submit the ones I would with no hesitation buy myself. I understand what you're saying though. It spreads out the attention too much.
Wanna comment on my latest design?? BTW thanks for the response you left me.
hey man, I'd really like to talk design with you. You seem to know a lot and I'd love to learn some pointers from you. Let me know what you think. Blessings.
Hey, I personally just wanted to say thanks for encouraging everyone on Brett's page to get involved and look at/vote for the other designs. Because of that I've been doing so, and there's so much talent and ambition on here, it's really amazing!
@Blake Vallotton _ I saw your post to Corey because I was posting to him about something, and I have to tell you Blake that what you posted to him is no more God-honoring than anything he has or hasn't said/done. HOW you say things is every bit as important as what you're trying to say to someone, and using all those invectives is no way to admonish or reprove someone: "prance around" "sacred little school girl" "your mommy" etc. You can say as many times as you like that you don't mean to be rude, but what you said and how you said it say otherwise. That kind of language is intended to demean and belittle people, and all the added comments saying you mean no offense do NOT stop it from being offensive. If you want to rebuke Corey (or anyone else) for some reason where yo think they are acting un-Christian etc, you need to be very sure about where you are, why you are doing it, and how you are doing it before you speak publicly or privately to someone. Part of the reason I changed my avatar to the James reference is to remind ME as well as other folks here how brothers should always attempt to deal with one another. I am posting this on Corey's page so he can see it too, and I think maybe I'll put it on Brett's design page so everyone else can see it also - this whole thing is just getting out of hand and does nothing to glorify the God we all say we love.
I get that part, I guess I just don't know how anyone would know which shirts are going to be added up at the same time for the equation to work. I mean, obviously EVERY shirt open for voting will not open-close at the same time because there can be so many - so does C28 have some way to do it in...groups/lumps? And wouldn't that sort of help defeat the scam you were talking about since we wouldn't know which shirts would be lumped together? Does that make my lack of understanding this part of the process any clearer? :-)
hey corey just wondering but why are you on here??? you prance around here like you own the place... you always are putting people down (even if you don't mean it) like brett, your comments sounded like a scared little school girl haha then you wrote to canvas like your telling mommy about the other kids...i don't mean to be rude but come on man! this is a christian web site we are called to uplift... its not brett's fault that people love him enough to go through the trouble of voting for him haha... again i don't mean to be rude but lets use this web site for what its made for
Hey Corey, you said on that design by Brett: "i hope you vote on the other shirts accordingly, not vote 1's to offset the votes (i didn't say you did that by the way, just saying, i hope you vote for everyone)." You know, I honestly never even thought of that being done (trying to up-vote a shirt by down-voting others); but since you mentioned it, doesn't C28 have something in place to protect against stuff like that? I mean, I don't even know how a shirt gets rated outside of it's own scores - does it go against other shirts submitted on the same date, or subjects or something too? I get the idea that having too many up at once could dilute my chances - but not very clear on "how"...other than people getting bored looking at so much of my stuff anyway. LOL! Thanks for any info on this.
Hey dude your designs are great :) Just remember that everyone here is to spread the love of Jesus Christ and hopefully no one is cheating haha Brett is a great designer and we love his blogs on Tumblr. Keep up the great work dude, I scored you very highly :) God bless
Thank you Cory. Not many would even care to admit that. Whether you actually contacted C28 or not, I'm not sure. I hope you didn't. I completely understand, though, where you were coming from. But what is done is done. Good luck to you in the future.
hey thanks for the apology to brett and i will stick around. your shirts are pretty legit:)
Thanks for manning up and looking at his Tumblr to see we weren't making stuff up. God bless.
I just saw your post on the shirt, thanks for looking at his site and believing us :)
Do you realize that I could have over a thousand people flag your comments as inappropriate within five minutes? But I will not do that. Apparently, though, you would if you could. Please, just back off. This is a Christian website. There is no room for this here.
I am enjoying being a member of the site and voting on other shirts as well as Brett's. You have some great designs too! Blessings!
Dude, Brett is legit! How is he cheating? He just simply linked his shirt to his extremely popular Tumblr. I'm kidwiththebulletsoul.tumblr.com. Feel free to go to my ask box to confirm that I'm not Brett or someone else. I don't even know Brett, I just really love his Tumblr posts. This is all very fair. It's an awesome design, he deserves the votes. He's also an extremely Godly guy. He would never involve himself in anything unChristlike as publicly cheating. Be blessed! Taylor
Woah. Cheating? How so?
Can you please delete your comment? Check to see if the people are real. In fact, I have something to prove they are: http://thehopemovement.tumblr.com/post/3225502705/not-of-this-world-approved-it-help-make-this-a Pay attention to the number of "notes". Awesome designs, by the way.
I have a blog with a five-digit number of followers. Many of them like the design. They actually persuaded me to submit this one, and I have many more. It's perfectly fair and just my friend. In Christ, Brett
On my anchored design a couple people have mentioned I need to clean up the edge on anchor. How do you outline overlapping objects. I just added a stroke to it and made it the same color as the shirt is there a better way?
why remove your comment? i can take it! :: puffs up chest :: ;-)
I just wanted to give you some honest feedback/ thoughts on comments you have made recently. First that this site is open to EVERYONE which means that its not always going to be designers designing shirts. There are high school kids seeing if they want to pursue design as a career, people having ideas and wanting to make a sure of them, and a whole bunch of other variables. So I encourage you to think before you post to a comment about software types and how to use them. Also since you and I have professional training in design which others on this site don't have so keep up the encouragement. Some of your posts can come across as 'I am better than them' mindset, which you probably are since you have professional training so my thought is to just watch your words and try to come across as arrogant.
in case you don't wander back... Thanks for the feedback..I'm glad you were able to grasp the idea a little bit. It's def not meant to communicate something - more of a conversation starter. is livetrace a jab? ;-) I didn't use livetrace; i used the pentool, as its a rework of a piece with more color. the organ is a composite of a few stock images; not clip art either. Although that's a nice inking you shared; I don't use clip art or other peoples art if I can help it. (or if i didn't pay for it) oh and i'm not a 'him'
Hey - I saw your feedback/critiques on some shirts. You had .. 'refreshing' things to say. Would you mind giving me your thoughts on mine? thanks :) ~Dae
Corey, you mind giving me your thoughts on my anchored design over in the critique section of the form.
Hey would love it if you could check out the shirt:) http://www.canvasthreads.com/DesignDetails.aspx?id=7243
Hey Corey, I wanted to let you know I appreciate your constant effort to encourage people to design for t-shirt printing/screen printing. I respect your advice and realize it is coming from years of professional experiance. I have a design I would like you to personally critique, is there a way I could send you a pic of the image? Is there a way I could get your e-mail? Thanks bro. -Andrew
By the way, I threw that together a long time ago for my own line, but never released it so I figured what the heck, we'll see what Canvas thinks.
Thanks for being honest, Corey. However slighting your comment was, I appreciate an honest view. Not in rebuttal, but if originality is key to you, why would make a "rooted" shirt when it's been done time and time again. Namely by a couple C28 brands (One Truth did it, Truth Soul Armor had a version, etc). Not trying to start anything, but if you're gonna call someone out for using vectors, is beating a dead horse any better?
my email is blake@toadsonly.com
I enjoy your professional opinions on my designs...Theres nothing wrong with constructive criticism to help with the direction of a design..Check out my new "consuming fire" design and criticize away!!!! Also, when are you going to upload a new design?
Newport Beach? That's just around the corner. Haha, maybe we'll run into each other sometime soon. Anyways, I know you've got the respected reputation of an honest//blunt//yet much needed critic around here, so i'd love to hear what you think of my latest design. It should be up by the end of the week, but here's what to look for..http://oi51.tinypic.com/20m3c0.jpg THANKS BRO, blessins
When did Mataboy or Brotherlos attempt to have a conversation with me about design? (see Mataboy comment below) Did I miss this? I haven't gotten any emails or messages on my page on here...I'm not on this site very often, but this is just getting ridiculous! Where is all this hostility coming from? Because I made a legit design critique? This needs to stop. I'm sure you agree, dude. Are we supposed to no longer defend design and instead just say 'it's great' no matter what because we are Christians? That is ridiculous! Christians can be good designers too, and I think we should encourage one another to do better and be the best, don't you agree? I'm not perfect, and I'm grateful for legit critiques (as I know you are)- sometimes it takes a second or third eye to look at something and say it doesn't work and here's why. This is crazy!
Hey friend! I'd love your feedback on another new design I have since you give great comments! http://www.canvasthreads.com/DesignDetails.aspx?id=6890
First I am not going to keep responding on Brotherlos Design page so I am putting it here. I am very good friends with Brotherlos and know very well how he can take a critique and he does not mind them. And there is a big difference in making a critique and being sarcastic and in my opinion the last part of the as you call it thrift store comment of I like thrift store shopping as much as the next but... was not a "professional" critique and in my observation a lot of that happens. And I have every right to be disturbed by it if I choose. Because I do not think it looks more like the Goodwill logo than the Facebook logo and I also know what I am talking about after almost 17yrs of doing so. Being a graphic designer does not make you the end all of opinions and just because your two opinions are that it looks like the Goodwill logo does not mean that everybody else needs to fall in place. Making irrelevant comments to me like we are not in the second grade is a joke just because I pointed out something that you don't agree with. The big picture is something that I guess only comes with age. It sure is funny that when Brotherlos and I try to make conversation with either Mk and even you on a professional level of common Christians and designers we get no answer but a quick opinion on a design is no problem or when you don't agree with something said.
Very nice collection of work!! God Bless!
thanks for taking the time to check my designs.. and thanks for the tips. Be Blessed!
Hey man, I feel like we have so much in common we need to get together one of these days in our fair city and chat Canvas and design! What do you think? facebook me! Maren Kelly
thanks for the pick up man, now you mention it i can see it clearly, will definitely fix it up before printing
are you not submitting anymore? please come back!
thanks for the comments, I'll definitely get some ideas up for a resubmit if it doesn't get printed first off. I had another version with a black wolf's head but that look a little to obvious, but i'll see if i can make something happen.
no hard feelings. thanks for your honest opinions. lets get a beer.
Hey man, I'm really diggin' your typography work. Hoping to get some feedback from you on some designs maybe. I know I can appreciate and take your criticism.
I actually hand-drew it with these amazing Japanese self-inking brush pens that I can get at a nearby Japanese book store- they are the most amazing things ever. Then I scanned it in!
Hey friend, I've got another new submission- this time for guys and girls called "Branches"- please check it out and leave some feedback. Thanks for your support!
Ok thanks Corey I'll keep that in mind next time.
Hey Corey. Re-reading what I wrote in reply to your comment on my comment to DOE's comment (Yeesh!) I realized that with the failings of electronic communication, what I wrote may have "sounded" a little bit...flippant. If it did, I want to assure you that it was not at all my intent to come off that way. As for the discussion in question, would my point have been clearer do you think, had I said something more like "All 'calls' on us by Christ are heard only by those they are intended for - just as the call to salvation is; and just like the call to salvation (that we are all told to make) in proclaiming Jesus to the world, those other calls also must be proclaimed to the world. Also, were it not for Christ calling us to be saved, we would not later hear him call us to: adopt, preach, feed, etc out of a love for Him." ? .... Anyway, just wanted to ensure that whether we agree or not, I was in no way attempting to be dismissive or rude. God bless and keep you and yours!
Hey! I loved your "Seek First the Kingdom" design, my fellow Costa Mesa friend! I totally know where your church is- I often eat at Woody's after church and see them tearing down the service! Anyways, just wanted to say I'd love you to check out my new design, it's been forever since I've submitted! Thanks!
Dude, love the "enemy is defeated" shirt. Keep it up man!
hey thanks for you comment on my design "my heart"... I fixed some of the problems.... please tell me what you think... GOD bless. http://www.canvasthreads.com/DesignDetails.aspx?id=6148
ooo! Your design got printed! Sweet!
Congrats on the win.. :) God Bless
Hey Man, Thanks for the comment on my back to the future design. You have some great work up on here. Good luck on your future submissions!
no. you didnt sound rude at all. im just tired of how people vote on here. i think you probably agree with that. the best shirts are gettting low scores and the ones getting high ones aren't even mediocore at best...its sad.
the PAPYRUS shirt was a joke. I know its the worst font. ever.
oh I meant just a collab here on canvas. Can you message me via myspace. I don't like posting my email in this setting. oh and I finally got around to updating my portfolio. took down alot of bad bad stuff.
Haha thanks for clarifying that on my profile, but I already commented on her page letting her know :)
Great work Corey. I haven't updated my portfolio in OVER a year and I actually need to remove A LOT of that stuff...not sure why i put some of it up there. I'd love to do a collaboration with you sometime.
it really is a long and tedious process and probably not the smartest one. :) Its hard to describe but I basically had 5 different layers of the same artwork and cut away from each layer at various sections using the same speckled pattern. I then displaced each layer slightly until I liked what I saw and then merged the matching colored layers.
what's good man
thanks corey. I find your stuff to be refreshing reprieve. I also found the community's response to your recent win ABSOLUTELY hilarious. Its easy to quickly become frustrated with some feedback here but its helpful to remember that a good percentage of this demographic consists of 12-17 yr. old homeschoolers. The votes usually reflect this. I should also preface that my submissions are definitely not indicative of my personal taste, i just feel any such an effort would likely be wasted upon those who've never heard of a typographical treatment. Your work on the other hand...great stuff, hopefully it won't go unnoticed.
HEY COREY , I JUST WANTED TO SAY CONGRATS OR YOUR WINNING DESIGN, AND ALSO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MY NEWEST DESIGNS, LEAVE SOME COMMENTS O FEEDBACK, GOD BLESS YOU.
Dude congrats on your "enemy tee" winning! You just proved that our mission to shake this place up with non-conformist tees isn't impossible, just improbable hahaha +good times+
Thanks for your great response regarding my Music Tee. That was the goal.
Dude, you've got guts to stick by your God-inspired designs and I really respect that. If I were a Christian visual artist (I'm a Christian performance artist), I wouldn't want people telling me what to do to a design that God has given me. Keep it up, dude. It'll all be worth it in the end. Design for God, not man.
You should print your kingdom1st regardless; sell me one if you do
hi corey! whats going thru? jejejeej well just passing by to say hi, God bless you alot! hoping to see more oh you! take care ok.
Andy Warhol. The influence is obvious now on your "kingdom1st" tee. I just can't see how that one can fail.
Lol! it was Hey, not Hoy HAHAHA
Hoy corey, just came to say hi! have a great weekend man!...Blessings!
Hey Corey! Thanks for your comment and vote on "Today Today". God Bless!
What's up Corey! Im here in socal myself. I really like your first entry here. I hear you on the christian designs being cheesy thing. Thats kinda why Im here too. Do you have a website or anything I'd like to check out some more of your stuff. Heres mine. http://endtimeclothing.com/
Hey man, thanks for your encouraging wall comment That made my day! -Rachel
